And ladies and Gents, here is an interview with a long standing author who has decided to break into the non-canon world! ncbexie25!
So we are going to start out with some basic information for all of you.
Can you please tell the people reading this your name you go by, can be real or penname?
For my non-canon fanfic, I’m ncbexie25. For my canon stuff: just bexie25.
Where do you like to post, and can you give us the site of your preferred medium?
I’ve posted on FF.net and FictionPad, but I definitely prefer FF.net
Non canon: https://www.fanfiction.net/~ncbexie25 (and for my Facebook NC group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/231382977059438/)
Canon: https://www.fanfiction.net/u/2889496/ (and for my canon Facebook groups: https://www.facebook.com/groups/327932867322639/ and https://www.facebook.com/groups/118639404965906/)
What do you like to snack when writing?
Anything, really. I definitely prefer chocolate over lollies, and maybe the occasion piece of cheesecake. I don’t really have a preference, haha. I write when I’m eating breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacking. Lots of Diet Coke and Sunkist if I’m staying up and need a little punch of caffeine to help me ‘cause I’m not really into tea or coffee.
Like the question above but what do you listen to when you write, do you have a playlist for certain stories?
You know, I used to not listen to anything when I wrote, and rather I’d listen to songs when I was going for a walk, or commuting between places, or even just around the house sometimes. I’d have certain songs that I liked to listen to for certain stories of mine. With my first venture into NC, I wanted to make the characters mine, so after I got the original idea, I took about 4 months developing the characters and writing up the plan. I’ve got over 20 pages for each, now.
It was during those periods of non-writing that I’d find songs (though I still am now as I just added a few songs a couple days ago; there are about 37 now), and I’d collect them together into a playlist. The first song I found was Love Me Tender—first Presley’s version (click here to listen and please do! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y-bd3aDMGA) but then Norah Jones’ version (click here to listen and please do! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gzC29VwE1A) ‘cause I was thinking of a female singing it. To me, she has a bit of a southern lilt when she sings which fits since she’s southern and Bella is as well. With the idea already swirling in my head, it grew the more I listened to those versions. That night I couldn’t sleep because I was coughing so much and I must’ve listened to it for six hours or something.
The first time I used the playlist was in Italy when I was writing up characters and the plot. By then there were more songs, but not by too much. The playlist is so important, because a lot of them are songs that Bella ‘writes’, or something that one or both feels, or an insight into one of their thoughts (they will all turn up in the story somehow) and one that I found from my brother when I visited him in England became the title of the fic (Sarah McLachlan’s In the Arms of An Angel—click here to listen and please do! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SiylvmFI_8). That one is truly Bella, before she meets Jasper again—her loneliness, her desperation, what she feels when she wakes up and is dragged back to a reality she doesn’t want to live. And you’ll see how it relates more as the story goes on.
I know I’m having trouble writing when I turn on my Korean pop playlist. That’s my last save, and for some reason, it always gets me into the zone and starts a frenzy. Perhaps it’s the fact that I can’t understand the words, but it serves to block everything else out, meaning no distractions—just writing.
So, I don’t normally/always have a concrete playlist, but it’s certainly become a must for this story.
P.S.—Please take a listen of those youtube links, either now or when you read my story again (if you’re a reader already) or even just to see if it is something you might be interested in. I like to think that my characters are able to sing in many voices, so each song is their voice, even if there are different artists in a playlist—which there are. These song links are really important because they are embedded so deeply in the story.
P.P.S.—My Jasper sings. And I have songs for him exclusively in the playlist, too.
